iGuide
The iGuide is a script. It's located at the top of each Illinois State webpage. It includes a link to the main domain page (IllinoisState.edu) and links to common resources.
The iGuide also ties into our emergency alert system. In the event of a campus emergency, the iGuide activates messaging that is pushed to all websites.

iGuide v1
iGuide v1 is the most used version for University websites. This iGuide is a black bar that appears across the top of webpages.
v1 Links and Common Resources
- Illinois State homepage
- Giving
- News
- Events
- Map
- Apply
- Search/A-Z
The right-aligned link goes to My.IllinoisState.edu.
These links and common resources are subject to change over time.
v1 Responsiveness
On desktop browsers, the iGuide's content spans the entire width of the viewport or browser window.
On a mobile screen, only the Illinois State homepage and My.IllinoisState.edu links are visible.
Emergency Alert in v1
During an emergency, the entire iGuide is replaced with an emergency iGuide. This version includes one link back to the Illinois State homepage.
iGuide v2
The
Illinois State homepage
and
My.IllinoisState.edu
include version 2 of the iGuide.
This version was created when the homepage was updated in 2018. It will also be used in next-generation Illinois State web templates.
The goals of version 2 are to:
- improve speed
- limit the page render blocking
- tightly integrate with a web page instead of just sitting on top of the page
Version 2 has a white/transparent background. It also includes links and common resources.
v2 Links and Common Resources
The left-aligned University logo takes visitors to the Illinois State homepage.
Right-aligned links take site visitors to:
- Giving
- News
- Events
- Map
- Apply
- My.IllinoisState.edu
- Search
v2 Responsiveness
iGuide v2 is fully responsive and built with a mobile-first strategy.
The iGuide does not expand wider than 1200px on a desktop browser.
Emergency Alert in v2
During an emergency, iGuide v2 does not disappear. An emergency bar with messaging appears above the iGuide.
